MOLYKOTE® G-5042 is a purple, NLGI 1 silicone grease for metal/plastic and plastic/plastic parts, delivering smooth, low-torque motion and long-term lubrication from very low to high temperatures in automotive mechanisms.

Product Overview

MOLYKOTE® G-5042 Grease is a silicone (siloxane) oil-based grease thickened with lithium soap to a soft NLGI Grade 1 consistency. This combination gives a stable, pumpable grease that spreads easily into thin films yet stays put on contact surfaces in service. It is designed for mixed-material interfaces, especially metal-to-plastic and plastic-to-plastic contacts that need consistent friction and smooth operation over a wide temperature range.

The grease is targeted at automotive mechanisms where plastics, elastomers, and metals all interact: starter motor overrun clutches, control cables, wiper motor gear trains, and similar assemblies that must operate quietly and reliably over the life of the vehicle. A broad service-temperature window (down to -50 °C and up to 170 °C) supports both cold-start conditions and elevated temperatures near engines or inside confined housings. Silicone chemistry provides strong thermal and oxidative stability, while the lithium thickener builds a coherent grease structure that resists sling-off and mechanical breakdown.

G-5042 is also formulated for compatibility with many common plastics and elastomers, making it suitable near EPDM boots, cable liners, and plastic housings where conventional hydrocarbon greases can cause swelling or cracking. Low evaporation at high temperature and good corrosion protection further reinforce its suitability for long-life automotive and electromechanical applications where re-lubrication opportunities are limited. The distinctive purple color helps technicians and production staff visually confirm coverage during assembly or service.
