MOLYKOTE® MI-60 Grease

270

Synthetic PAO grease with PTFE solid lubricant engineered for plastic-on-plastic and plastic-on-metal interfaces in automotive actuators, steering columns, and electric motors requiring extreme low-temperature performance.

Product Overview

MOLYKOTE® MI-60 Grease is a premium synthetic polyalphaolefin (PAO) based lubricant formulated specifically for plastic and metal component interfaces in automotive mechanical and electromechanical systems. This NLGI Grade 1-2 grease features a lithium soap thickener combined with PTFE solid lubricants to deliver exceptional low-friction performance and plastic compatibility. With a base oil viscosity of 29 cSt at 40°C and an operational temperature range from -50°C to 150°C (-58°F to 302°F), MOLYKOTE® MI-60 maintains consistent lubrication performance across extreme temperature variations encountered in automotive applications.

Designed for long-term lubrication of plastic gears, actuators, and precision mechanical assemblies, MOLYKOTE® MI-60 Grease addresses the critical challenge of plastic component wear in automotive steering columns, ignition mechanisms, servo motors, and electric power steering systems. The grease’s low coefficient of friction reduces torque requirements and minimizes heat generation in plastic gear trains, extending component service life and preventing premature failure. The synthetic PAO base provides superior oxidation resistance and thermal stability compared to mineral oil greases, ensuring reliable performance throughout extended service intervals.

Applications

Automotive steering column mechanisms and bearings
Ignition lock cylinders and mechanisms
Electric power steering (EPS) motor gearboxes
Automotive actuators (blend door, transfer case, power tilt/telescope)
Servo motors with plastic gear reduction sets
Electric motor components with plastic-on-metal interfaces
Precision mechanical assemblies in automotive electronics
Plastic gears in worm gear drive systems
Window lift mechanisms and seat adjustment motors
Mirror adjustment actuators and trunk/tailgate lifts

Features & Benefits

Superior Plastic Compatibility

Formulated to be safe for use with polyacetal, polyamide, nylon, and PS foam plastics commonly used in automotive actuators, preventing stress cracking, swelling, or material degradation that causes premature component failure.

Extreme Low-Temperature Performance

Maintains lubrication effectiveness down to -50°C, ensuring reliable cold-start operation in harsh winter climates where conventional greases stiffen and cause increased torque or mechanical seizure.

Low Coefficient of Friction

PTFE solid lubricant additives significantly reduce friction between plastic-on-plastic and plastic-on-metal surfaces, minimizing heat generation, reducing motor current draw, and extending plastic gear service life.

Extended Thermal Stability

Synthetic PAO base oil withstands continuous operation up to 150°C with minimal oxidation or viscosity breakdown, maintaining protective lubrication film in high-temperature underhood environments.

Long-Term Lubrication Performance

Superior oxidation resistance and excellent adhesion properties enable lifetime lubrication in sealed actuator assemblies, eliminating maintenance requirements and reducing total cost of ownership.

Reduced Noise and Vibration

Low-friction characteristics dampen operational noise and smooth mechanical motion in steering columns, power assist systems, and comfort actuators, improving overall vehicle refinement.

Problems Solved

Plastic Gear Wear and Stripping in Automotive Actuators

Prevents the premature wear and tooth stripping of nylon and polyacetal gears commonly used in transfer case actuators, blend door motors, and steering assist mechanisms, eliminating costly actuator replacements and system failures.

Cold-Start Torque and Binding in Steering Systems

Eliminates the stiffness and binding that occurs in steering columns, ignition mechanisms, and electric power steering systems during cold weather operation, ensuring smooth, responsive steering and reliable ignition function in winter climates.

Excessive Current Draw and Motor Burnout

Reduces friction-induced heat and torque requirements in electric actuators and servo motors, preventing motor overcurrent conditions that lead to winding burnout or electronic control failures in thermally challenging environments.

Plastic Component Stress Cracking and Degradation

Provides lubrication without chemical attack on engineering plastics, eliminating the brittleness, cracking, and dimensional changes caused by incompatible greases that contain aggressive solvents or additives.
