MOLYKOTE® G-407 Grease

270

Polyalkylene glycol (PAG) anti-fretting grease engineered specifically for automotive brake caliper slide pins and guide pins to prevent noise, corrosion, and binding in metal-to-metal brake system interfaces.

Product Overview

MOLYKOTE® G-407 Grease is a specialized polyalkylene glycol (PAG) based lubricant formulated exclusively for automotive brake caliper applications where fretting corrosion and slide pin seizure cause brake noise, uneven pad wear, and reduced braking performance. This NLGI Grade 2 anti-fretting grease features advanced corrosion inhibitors and extreme pressure additives designed to withstand the harsh thermal cycling, moisture exposure, and micro-movements characteristic of brake caliper slide pin interfaces. The distinctive green color provides easy visual identification during brake service and quality control inspections.

Designed for brake caliper guide pins, mounting pins, and metal-to-metal contact surfaces in floating caliper assemblies, MOLYKOTE® G-407 prevents the squeaking, grinding, and rattling noises caused by corroded or dry slide pins that restrict proper caliper movement. The grease maintains effective lubrication across a service temperature range of -40°C to 150°C (-40°F to 302°F), providing reliable performance through extreme winter cold starts and high-temperature brake fade conditions. The advanced PAG base fluid offers superior oxidation resistance and elastomer compatibility, preventing seal degradation while delivering long-term corrosion protection in road salt and moisture-contaminated environments.

Applications

Automotive brake caliper slide pins and guide pins
Floating brake caliper mounting hardware
Disc brake caliper assembly metal-to-metal interfaces
Brake caliper bracket contact surfaces
Parking brake cable guides and linkages
Brake hardware anti-rattle clips and shims
Drum brake backing plate contact points
Metal-to-metal friction surfaces in brake systems
Wheel bearing hub interfaces (non-bearing applications)
Chassis lubrication points exposed to brake heat

Features & Benefits

Anti-Fretting Corrosion Protection

Specialized formulation prevents the micro-movement wear and oxidation damage that causes brake caliper slide pins to seize, eliminating the uneven pad wear, brake pulling, and premature component replacement associated with frozen calipers.

Wide Service Temperature Range

Maintains consistent lubrication from -40°C to 150°C, ensuring reliable caliper movement during cold-weather starting conditions and sustained high-temperature braking in mountainous terrain or heavy-duty towing applications.

Superior Elastomer Compatibility

PAG-based formulation does not degrade EPDM rubber caliper boots and seals, preventing the swelling, cracking, and moisture intrusion that leads to corrosion and caliper binding in sealed slide pin assemblies.

Brake Noise Elimination

Prevents the squeaking, grinding, and metallic rattling caused by dry or corroded caliper hardware, reducing warranty claims and customer dissatisfaction related to brake system noise complaints.

Oxidation and Moisture Resistance

Advanced corrosion inhibitor package protects caliper pins from road salt, moisture, and high-temperature oxidation, extending service intervals and preventing the premature rust and pitting that causes slide pin seizure.

Visual Identification

Distinctive green color enables technicians to quickly verify proper lubrication during brake service inspections and quality control procedures, reducing installation errors and ensuring warranty compliance.

Problems Solved

Brake Caliper Slide Pin Seizure and Binding

Eliminates the corrosion-induced freezing of caliper guide pins that causes uneven brake pad wear, vehicle pulling during braking, and complete caliper replacement due to piston damage from compensating for restricted movement.

Brake Noise and Rattling Over Rough Roads

Prevents the metallic rattling, squeaking, and grinding sounds caused by dry or corroded caliper hardware that generates customer complaints and costly warranty repairs, particularly in vehicles operating in salt-belt regions.

Premature Brake Pad and Rotor Wear

Ensures proper caliper floating action to maintain even pad-to-rotor contact pressure, preventing the tapered pad wear patterns, warped rotors, and reduced braking efficiency caused by stuck slide pins that load one pad more heavily than the other.

Rubber Boot and Seal Degradation

Provides lubrication without chemical attack on EPDM elastomer components, eliminating the boot swelling, cracking, and seal failure caused by petroleum-based greases that allow moisture intrusion and subsequent corrosion of caliper pins.
