MOLYKOTE® MH-62 Grease

270

MOLYKOTE® MH-62 Grease is a synthetic PAO, lithium-thickened, plastic-safe grease for plastic/plastic and plastic/metal contacts in HVAC controls, cables, and small motors, combining wide-temp performance with high load capacity and low bleed.

Product Overview

MOLYKOTE® MH-62 Grease is a synthetic hydrocarbon (PAO) oil thickened with lithium soap and reinforced with finely dispersed solid lubricants.  This chemistry gives an NLGI 2 grease that stays where it is applied, resists oil separation, and supports high contact pressures in compact mechanisms.

The grade is formulated for mixed-material lubrication: plastic/plastic, metal/plastic, and metal/metal pairs in electromechanical assemblies.  It is widely referenced for automotive HVAC components and cables, including control cables, small electric motors, antennas, audio mechanisms, and bearings running under light to moderate loads.  Good compatibility with many plastics and elastomers allows direct lubrication of plastic housings, guides, and cable liners without the cracking, swelling, or softening associated with some generic greases.

Acceptable temperature ranges for this grease are -40 °C to +120 °C. which makes MH-62 suitable for interior and lightly exposed locations that see cold starts, under-dash heat, and intermittent duty. With up to 60 months of shelf life in closed containers, it can be standardized across multiple programs without frequent reformulation or requalification.

Applications

Automotive HVAC components: blend doors, mode doors, pivot points, and linkages

Control cables in HVAC, seat, latch, and small actuator systems

Precision electric motors and small gear drives in interior or lightly exposed locations

Antennas, audio mechanisms, and similar light-duty assemblies where feel and noise matter

Plastic/plastic and plastic/metal guides, sliders, and bearings in consumer and industrial electromechanical devices

Features & Benefits

Synthetic PAO base oil

Provides stable viscosity and film strength over a broad temperature range for consistent feel and protection in cables, sliders, and small bearings.

Lithium soap, NLGI 2 structure

Builds a stable grease body that adheres to contact points yet can still be applied with standard grease guns, brushes, or automated dispensers.

Fortified with solid lubricants

Solid lubricant package lowers friction and wear in low-speed, oscillating contacts such as HVAC linkages and control cables.

Plastic and elastomer friendly

Designed with good compatibility for common plastics and rubber, helping protect housings, cable liners, and guides from stress cracking or swelling.

Wide operating temperature capability

Useful over -40 °C to +120 °C, supporting global interior applications and moderate thermal exposure.

High load-carrying capacity

Formulated to handle higher contact pressures than typical light-duty plastic greases, supporting bearings and sliding pairs under light to moderate loads.

Controlled bleed and evaporation

Low oil separation and modest evaporation help keep grease in the contact zone and reduce contamination of nearby optics or electrical parts.

Long shelf life and practical packaging

Typically supplied in pails with up to 60-month storage life, simplifying stocking for OEM and maintenance programs.

Problems Solved

Stick-slip and rough feel in HVAC controls and interior sliders

MH-62’s PAO/solid-lubricant system reduces breakaway torque in plastic/plastic and plastic/metal interfaces, improving smoothness and perceived quality in HVAC doors, blend flaps, and control linkages.

Premature wear or noise in control cables and small bearings

By combining high load-carrying capacity with good plastic compatibility, the grease protects cable cores, liners, and small bearings from wear while maintaining low friction over long service intervals.

Plastic damage from incompatible general-purpose greases

MH-62 is designed for use on plastic/plastic and plastic/metal substrates, helping avoid the swelling, softening, or cracking that can occur when mineral-oil chassis greases are used on engineered plastics.

Grease migration in compact electromechanical housings

Controlled bleed and evaporation mean the grease is less likely to creep onto nearby optics, contacts, or friction surfaces that must remain clean, supporting reliable performance in dense assemblies.

Need for a single, plastic-safe electromechanical grease across multiple mechanisms

Because it works on plastic/plastic, metal/plastic, and metal/metal pairs within a broad temperature range, MH-62 can often replace multiple niche greases in interior electromechanical hardware.
