Application
Compatibility is a key aspect to consider when selecting a lubricant for rubber and elastomers. With the incorrect level of compatibility there can be physical property changes in the rubber or elastomer which cause it to swell or shrink, change hardness or tensile strength, among other changes, which ultimately prevent it from performing up to its original engineered design. Some lubricants exist which are specially formulated for rubber and elastomers, however it is often best to test for performance given the plethora of different types/grades of rubber and elastomers that exist.
