Application
During assembly of two mating parts there may be different categories of fit. Some parts may have clearance and they assemble quite easily, while others may have interference fits were they need to be pressed together. Proper lubrication is critical to help prevent chatter and scoring/galling damage during these operations. Initial startup (run -in) of new or rebuilt equipment such as gears, splines, journal bearings, cams and ways can be aided by proper lubrication to prevent initial surface damage.
