Modeling Molecular Structure to Tribological Performance

The strengths and weaknesses of the various silicone lubricants are presented.  To overcomes limitations such as poor metal-to-metal lubricity, modeling of the impact of molecular structure on rheological and tribological properties has been developed.  Using the newly developed molecular modeling tools a new family of phenyl and fluoro siloxane copolymer fluids have been developed that have superior thermal and wear resistance.  These fluids have been formulated into greases, which extend the performance range of silicone based lubricants.
